A thousand years ago, the sea changed. And the change spread. No one knows why . . . till now. Epic adventure in a strange world by New York Times bestselling author Jack Conner.

The boiling, toxic, lightning-wreathed Atomic Sea has encompassed every ocean on the planet, and the creatures that live in it have become mutated and unnatural. The sea's taint can infect any human who comes in contact with it or with unprocessed seafood, killing them . . . or altering them. No one knows why the sea has become this way or what it portends, only that it's irrevocably changed the world.

Meanwhile, world war has erupted, and the small country of Ghenisa, like many others, is tottering on the brink of collapse under the onslaught of the Empire of Octung. Dr. Francis Avery, a Ghenisan whose adventures have taken him into the heart of Octung itself, the very lair of the enemy, has finally found Anissa, his daughter. He'd thought she was dead, but she now she's been returned to the world of the living, and he wants nothing more than to make her safe.

The only problem is that Jess Sheridan, spy, assassin and Avery's former lover, is the girl's guardian.

But that's just the tip of the trouble Avery finds himself in. With the entire might of Octung trying to find and destroy them, Avery, the members of his band and the renegades of the Black Sect plot rebellion and revolution in the bowels of an abandoned subway tunnel. If they can complete the so-called Device in time, the world may yet be saved from the otherworldly horrors that hold sway over the Lightning Crown.

But will Avery's desire to save his daughter endanger the mission and put them all at risk?

Note: This is Volume 3 (or Part 3) in the series and I feel this is a series best read in sequence. Volume 1 is freaking awesome but it also gives you a good basis for the characters’s motives in Volume 2. Also, I want to say that the author has made things a little confusing by combining parts or dividing them up. So sometimes we have volumes and sometimes we have parts.

Once again, we have another interesting and enjoyable tale from the Atomic Sea! This is just a great series about messed up fish-faced people. In Vol. 2, we left our heroes trying to find another altar for Layanna to do her big thing. They decided to try for the heart of Octung, where the Cathedral of Lors rests in Golna. Things don’t go as planned – cue evil laughter!

Dr. Avery remains one of my favorite characters. In general, he’s a rather gentle soul, but that benevolent characteristic is slowly being beaten out of him by this quest of Layanna’s. He once had a daughter and his memories of her come into play in this book. How much would he sacrifice to have her alive and whole again, as if that were possible?

Janx and Hildra are still around, as well as the monkey. Every fish-faced dirigible crew that’s out to save the world needs a monkey. Hildra makes me laugh even though most of her lines are pretty simplistic.

Much to my delight, Captain Sheridan, who I think is now an Octung General, makes another appearance. This time she wants more from Avery than just his body. Plus she has more to offer Avery than bedroom restraints, decent food, clean water, and a place in the medical research unit. Dr. Avery will have to make the hardest choice of his life in this book.

We lost a favorite character in a previous book but that character gets another shot at fame in glory in this tale. There’s plenty of opportunities for our heroes to turn sell-outs and leave the rest of them to be sacrificed. Layanna is obviously driven to complete her mission but she also has this deep natural drive that is sometimes at odds with her bigger goal. This series continues to grip me! Where will the author take us next in this fishy tentacle land?

I received a free copy of this book.

The Narration: Ray Greenley continues to give us an excellent performance. I love all his fishy voices. Really, I don’t know how he does it! Plus there’s some pretty emotional scenes in this book and he does a great job with those as well. I still love his voice for Sheridan who can be both sexy and a stone-cold killer.

The Atomic Sea Part Three eBook Jack Conner Reviews

Loving it so far - it picks right up where Part 1 (which for me having the book included Part 2) leaves off. it is kind a whacky thrill ride through a land that included monsters, aliens, subways, flying giant manta rays, WW II type bombers, exotic weapons, knives, and every other thing the author could cram in. Kind of Steam Punk meets sci-fi meets fantasy meets WW II meets excessive drug use LOL.
The adventures of Avery, Layanna, Janx and Hildra continue in their quest to find the Black Sect, help Layanna build the 'Device' and defeat The Collossum. It seems though that at every turn they're close to defeat by members of The Collossum or the Octtunggen. Admiral Sherridan seems to be a thorn in their sides as she just never seems to stay dead. Another great episode in the further adventures of these four fellow adventurers on The Atomic Sea.
Having read Parts One and Two (the original Part One), I am pleased to be able to say that this volume continues the story with all the quality of those earlier portions. We get more of the backstory and insight into the characters as they go through another stage of the adventure. We are left off on the point of the next great leg, in which all-too-clearly our brave companions will be in even more dire straits as they journey on. So, this story fulfills the promise of its predecessors, and leaves us waiting for what comes next.
The subtitle for this entry could have easily been sacrifice. That's the theme and the constant for almost all the protagonists and associated characters, and even some primary antagonists, who have no choice but to give of themselves in often very stark and shocking ways to bring this war to a victorious close before the might of the Octung Empire sweeps the world with its alien technology under the direction of the Eldritch abominations worshipped as gods.

In this tale, our heroes must penetrate into the very heart of Octung and see the enemy firsthand to have any hope of obtaining a weapon to end the villainous scheme to reshape the world, but none will come through unscathed.

Generally an very enjoyable entry. Rousing, but like the other concluding entries, too short, and while Avery, the main character, is again forced to confront his demons and faces a terrifying temptation, for some portions of the book he seems to go back to being a cypher or pair of eyes on this tour through the amazing world of the Atomic Sea. A continuation of the same format, but Avery's characterization sometimes suffers.
Awe inspiring, action packed adventure!!
The odyssey continues with Avery, Janx, Hildra and Layanna. They've trekked many dangerous miles, over treacherous
terrain, fighting and beating the Octtunggen, the Collossum and their spies at every turn. They're closer to reaching the members of the Black Sect and helping to end the war.
On the boat ride to their destination, a strange, average looking man, with a powerful presence, ivisits them promising his help. He leaves behind a device he guarantees will aid them. Can they believe him? Dare they trust him?
Escaping pursuit, they arrive in Octung and find their way to Golna and the Black Sect. Plans and actions are underway to end the war, when news reaches the resistance team. (The team has strengthened in numbers once they reach the city of Golna.) The Collossum have a plan to stop the resistance fighters. No one knows the plan. It will be revealed on Deep Night in the Throne Room, deep inside the imposing Cathedral of Lors! Somehow, they must send a spy to uncover and report back this plan! But, who? The Collossum are powerful and deadly! To get in, improbable; to get out, impossible! It is surely a suicide mission! But someone must go! Who will it be?
The story is fascinating; the world and its inhabitants seem real and believable! Humans, mutants, and gods! And, a band of resistance fighters striving to save them all!! Do I know what happens next? No!! But, I kow it will be epic!

Volume 1 is freaking awesome but it also gives you a good basis for the characters’s motives in Volume 2.
